A truck driver died Tuesday afternoon when his cement truck flipped on East Elfinwild Road in Shaler and rolled into Pine Creek.
Steven Wilson, 29, of Creighton, was trapped inside the cab of the truck after it fell into the creek, according to Shaler police Lt. Bryan Kelly. He worked for John W. Thrower, Inc., of Saxonburg.
Autopsy results aren't complete yet so the cause of the death has not been determined.
Wilson was making a cement delivery to a home on East Elfinwild Road around 2 p.m. Tuesday. Tire marks can be seen on the road where the driver tried to stop before the truck flipped to its side.
The Allegheny County Homicide Unit and medical examiners were called to the scene to investigate.
The truck was leaking diesel fuel and possibly lyme from the cement after it crashed into the creek, according to Lt. Kevin Boyle. Crews were working to contain it.
Mark Weidner, whose insurance office is on Route 8 with its rear to the creek, said he's used to hearing car crashes at the intersection, but not from the hill behind his business.
"This bang just kept going," he said.
The guide rails on East Elfinwild Road were shredded as the truck lay motionless in the creek.
Along with the Shaler police at the scene were Hampton Volunteer Fire Department, Shaler Villa Volunteer Fire Department and Shaler EMS.
