The Redevelopment Authority of Allegheny County has awarded more than $173,000 for five projects intended to repair, beautify and protect three Allegheny River towns hit hard by flooding. Approved were three projects in Millvale and one each in Etna and Sharpsburg. Millvale Manager Virginia Pucci said her town is "very happy" to be receiving more than $125,000 for its three projects.

Funds for Millvale include:

• $106,698 toward an $801,287 project to replace streetlights that were destroyed. Work started in November.

• $10,000 to be used toward a $50,000 project to turn an empty lot at 520 Grant Street into a public recreation and education area.

• $9,171 for Red Star Ironworks to improve the flood-damaged facade of its Sedgwick Street building next to Girty's Run, and to install hoists that can be used to raise its equipment should another flood occur.

Etna was given $42,000 toward a $768,700 project to replace a railroad bridge over Pine Creek near the intersection of Grant and Crescent streets.
