The Pittsburgh Philharmonic Presents An Evening with the Stars: Science and Symphony

It’s a full moon and the Philharmonic is feeling starry-eyed! Join the Pittsburgh Philharmonic and Music Director Roger Tabler on Saturday, May 17, 2008 at 7:00 p.m. at North Hills Junior High School Auditorium for An Evening with the Stars: Science and Symphony. Narration and a multimedia show featuring local astrophotography will provide the backdrop to selections from Holst’s The Planets, Mozart’s Symphony No. 41 Jupiter, selections from Star Wars and more! Plus you’ll be wowed by “rising musical star” Dan Urbanowicz, winner of the Pittsburgh Philharmonic Young Artist Competition. Mr. Urbanowicz will perform the first and second movements of the Bruch Violin Concerto in G minor.
The Amateur Astronomers Association of Pittsburgh (AAAP) will also join the Philharmonic for the final concert of the season. Members of the AAAP will be on hand to display some telescopes and other equipment used to view the night sky. And if it is a clear evening members will set their equipment up outside after the concert for people to take a look at the moon and other night objects.
Advance tickets are $12 for adults ($15 at the door), $8 for seniors ($10 at the door) and $5 for students. Children 12 and under are admitted free.
