Cast of 'Seussical' up for numerous awards

The cast, crew and orchestra of Pine-Richland High School's production of "Seussical" earned 11 nominations in the Pittsburgh Civic Light Opera Association's Gene Kelly awards. The award winners will be announced at a special ceremony on Saturday, May 24, at 7:30 p.m. at the Benedum Center in Pittsburgh.

PR's nominations include: Best Set Design, Best Lighting Design, Best Costume Design, Best Orchestra, Best Direction, Best Choreography, Best Ensemble, Best Musical/Bud-get Level III; Best Actor: Cody Hoellerman for his role as the Cat in the Hat; Best Actress: Lauren Gigliotti for her role as Gertrude; Best Supporting Actress: Arielle Katcher for her role as Mayzie.

PRHS graduate and musical director Tim Marquette, who took over for retiring Lou Valenzi, was pleased by this year's announcement.

"We are so proud of all the hard work the kids put into the musical this year," Marquette said. "We are so honored for the chance to have the kids featured in a performance on the stage of the Benedum."

Musical producer Carole Rost said she got to see several really terrific high school musicals this year, so she was proud that PRHS was acknowledged with these nominations.
