Gift basket fundraiser scheduled

Even though Easter is already over, baskets are still on the minds of members of the Glenshaw Century Club.

The club will host the Cherry Blossom Luncheon and Fashion Show at 10:30 a.m. at the Wildwood Golf Club on Saturday, April 26.

The luncheon and fashion show is one of two annual fundraisers the club hosts to raise money, which members immediately turn into charitable donations.

The ladies of the club met last week to prepare nearly 20 baskets for the raffle. The baskets are filled with items donated by members and by local businesses, including florists, restaurants, inns and garden shops, says co-chairperson Mary Wagner.

The baskets also contain liquor and toys; however those don't come in the same wicker, obviously.

The fashion show will feature clothing from Talbots, located in the Ross Park Mall. Club members pick out their outfits and between 12 and 14 of the ladies show off the latest fashions.

The outfits will be anything in current styles, including shorts, skirts, dresses and tops.

The luncheon will also have a 50-50 raffle, door prizes and a lottery tree that includes two $50 gas cards.

Some of the charities the money goes toward include Meals on Wheels, the Greater Pittsburgh Women's Shelter, Salvation Army, North Hill Community Outreach, three local libraries and some food pantries. The total for all the charities adds up to $4,000.

The bulk of the money raised goes toward scholarships awarded to seniors graduating from Shaler Area High School. Students who win those scholarships will split $18,000 among them. The committee will meet on April 22 to decide who will be this year's winners.

The Wildwood Golf Club is located at 2195 Sample Road, Allison Park, Pa., 15101. Tickets for the event cost $30 and are going fast.
