Lady Tigers shred Lady Foxes 7-0
The North Allegheny Lady Tigers looked as complete a team as one could hope for as they are vying for the third and final playoff spot.
The Lady Tigers showed the Lady Foxes of Fox Chapel just how well they can play in all phases of the game, as the Lady Tigers triumphed 7-0.
It's difficult to pinpoint where North Allegheny dominated the game the most.
"We have moved them (Cotter and Fedell) around," said Joe Pereira, North Allegheny head coach. "Our infield and outfield are set now and good defense brings wins."
Not to be outdone by the defense, the offense did it's job as well.
Cotter knocked in a pair of runs in the second inning and Mary DeMino hit home another. The third inning also produced runs, as Katie Polley doubled. Polley was hit home by a Kelsey Birsic RBI triple. In the sixth inning Amber Steenbeke singled and was brought home by Fedell's double. Fedell crossed home plate thanks to a single by Sarah Moore.
"We changed up our lineup and stressed patience to the kids," Pereira said. "We are seeing the ball better."
Pereira added that he and the coaching staff always stress three things to the squad before each practice and game.
"Work hard, never give up and be aggressive," Pereira said. "So far that has worked for us."
With the win, the Lady Tigers kept pace with Shaler for the third playoff spot in Section 3AAAA. The playoff picture was decided on Tuesday, as North Allegheny hosted North Hills and Shaler hosted Pine-Richland. If North Allegheny and Shaler remain tied, both will advance to the playoffs, having split their regular season match-ups, 1-1.
Results of those games were unavailable as of press time.
